Some Time on the Rails in Kansas

April 4-5, 2003

Had a free weekend while in Sapulpa so I took a drive up to Kansas City for the weekend. A great place to railfan with variety and unique views. I took pictures until the battery ran dead on Saturday. Got pictures of BNSF, UP, Kansas City Southern, Gateway Western, Old Santa Fe blue & yellow paint. Saw much more, CEFX leased units, original BN green, Grinstein green and cream on 70 MACs, a veritable plethora of paint.
First catch is a UP manifest train in Altoona, KS. He was just poking along waiting for a signal to turn before cranking up and continuing north. Nice sunny day with bright but gentle light. Not the usual overpowering blast of mid-summer sun typical in Kansas.
MTV comes to rail photography! Found this GP-35 idling the day away Saturday in Lenexa, KS. The former BN caboose was a nice bonus. Click the picture for a normal view of this unit.
Good Stuff Coming up!
